2007, while helping to organise a new user support forum focused on OpenOffice.org, the idea of a loosely structured user group was first discussed.

In 2010 with the LibreOffice fork of the idea was to reflect the changes by renaming the organisation, OpenDocument User Community Volunteers.

In Dec. 2011 this site opened to explore what that might mean, in action.
